Getting out of comfort zone
As an introvert it is not very natural for me to share my journey, but a wise man once said, "Improvement begins at the edge of your comfort zone!"
A few days ago on the Internet, I read a wonderful story. The message was simple but powerful.
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no more now. Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly later emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, a moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body which would contract in time. Neither happened! The butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.
There is a certain uneasiness in the struggle. It's sometimes terrifying and most often even stressful. But it's necessary to face such situations. Like the butterfly in the story, one needs to go through uncomfortable phases to emerge stronger. That's my motivation to pen down my thoughts. As an introvert, this is not very natural for me. But a wise man once said, "Improvement begins at the edge of your comfort zone."
